Gain real world communication experience and build your portfolio while helping fight cancer. The American Cancer Society is attacking cancer from every angle. Beating cancer takes more than medicine. Which is why the American Cancer Society does much more than funding breakthrough research. We provide free transportation of patients to care/treatment appointments, a 24/7 toll-free cancer helpline, and free lodging for patients near hospitals. That’s why we need your help as a volunteer.

Candidate

• College graduate with a communications degree; or a Junior, Senior or Master’s student majoring in communications or a related field
• Flexible schedule available
• Ongoing project guidance will be provided

Responsibilities

• Interview staff and other volunteers to summarize their "Story of Hope;" summarize content for use in traditional news media pitches and social media posts targeting New England communities
• Draft press releases and/or local news media pitches
• Create social media content for area fundraiser events and/or mission delivery programs,
• Schedule Facebook and Twitter posts and engage with audience
• Update and/or edit local media distribution lists.
• Assistance in Departmental priorities as needed

Skills Preferred

• Communications, marketing, graphic design, video production, photography or journalism background preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Ability to complete projects independently
• Good time management skills; including meeting deadlines
• Commitment to the mission and goals of the American Cancer Society ( www.cancer.org)
