LITA of CC directs all interested in Pet Visits to ARF’s PET HUGPACKprogram, providing volunteer opportunities in both Contra Costa and Alameda counties . LITA Friendly Visitors are individual and family visitors as well as volunteers for LITA’s Music Awakening iPod Compassion Project. Our Pet visitors are now referred to ARF

LITA volunteers serve facilites in El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Martinez, Richmond, Concord and Pleasant Hill.

LITA’s primary mission is finding friendly visitors for full time hospital residents. When a volunteer is under 18, parent or guardian must add their names and contact info to the email (or online) application. Few skilled nursing facilities have solo volunteers under age 18. Completing your LITA Application is Step 1. LITA can then arrange for you to meet the skilled nursing facility Activity Director, normally during week days before 5pm, for you to get an orientation and to set up the schedule you may have in mind *

LITA works with the nursing staff and facility Activity Director to help LITA volunteers have a satisfying volunteer experience. Any concerns / issues about the residents or hospital are reported to LITA first as we are diligent in requesting Ombudisman visits to check out any type of complaints. Supporting Special Events and Services once a week or even twice a month is still a GREAT cause. LITA can help you "try it out" first, to decide if this volunteer work is for you. Painting ladies nails or bringing a pet is a good way to get to know one or several patients. You can connect with ARF after one trial visit with your pet before doing ARFs excellent preparation program when you decide to become a regular Pet visitor.

For one time visits : LITA encourages both pro and amateur lively arts such as music, dance, comedy and magic performances as well as simple crafts and art projects. We also organize Pet Parades in September. It is vital that you and the facility Activity Director agree on a specific activity day and plan for your one time visit. Most of event or one time visits need to be set up at least one month in advance.

• * For "on going," weekly one on one, up close friendly in room visits: most skilled nursing facilities/convalescent hospitals require a current TB test in order to come in regularly, or on a weekly basis as a volunteer. Each facility will have their unique set of volunteer paperwork for you to complete. An orientation may be a single meeting with the AD or it may include a senior abuse prevention video and volunteer training along with a facility tour.
