Fun & Fitness with Friends is a social and recreation program for children and teens with special needs. The program provides a supportive, structured, and nurturing environment to develop new skills and make friends. Children have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including: sports, swimming, arts & crafts, cooking, dance/movement, and more. Children are separated into two groups: ages 6-12, and ages 13-18.

Each child is paired with a trained volunteer who assists them and provides one-on-one attention throughout the program.

Volunteer Opportunities

One of Fun and Fitness with Friends’ greatest strengths is our team of volunteer "Buddies" who work one on one with our incredible children and teens.

Benefits of Volunteering:
In addition to making friends and making a real difference in the life of other children, volunteers also benefit with a free Social Membership to the JCC during the length of the program, high school students can earn community service hours, and job seekers and college bound individuals can earn skills and experience.

Volunteer "Buddy" Requirements:
Must be 15 years old or older, must commit to working Sundays from 11:30-4:30pm for the extent of the program, ability to lift 50 lbs, ability to be on feet for long periods of time, and must submit to a LiveScan fingerprinting and background check.

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer for this program, please complete and return the Volunteer Form via fax (408.358.7311) or scan and email (preferred) to christinew@apjcc.org.

This program is made possible, in part, thanks to generous support from Bill Lister/Coldwell Banker, the Los Gatos Morning Rotary Club, the Nicholson Family Foundation, the Saratoga Rotary Club, and Sylvia Metz.
