Homeownership Fair - AAPI
With 150-200 people at the Homeownership Fair.

(FACE formerly KCCD) 17th Annual Homeownership Fair. This year we are excited to host 3 homeownership fairs targeting different ethnic communities. The fairs will be held on Saturday June 9th, June 16th, co-host with CAREPA, and July 21st, 2018. All fairs are open to everyone. However, June 9th will focus on the Korean community, June 16th to the Chinese community and July 21st to the African immigrant community. We are expecting between 150-200 participants for each event this year. Our past fairs have been a great success receiving wide media coverage, both mainstream and ethnic media, and garnering hundreds of participants annually with a total of over 9,000 participants to date. An extensive publicity/outreach campaign for the fair will be run through e-blasts, social media, and through print media, television, radio as well outreach to churches and nonprofits.

As in the past, we will be bringing together communities to meet with mortgage lenders and industry experts, and providing the tools to purchase a home. Past speakers include experts from organizations such as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, City of Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department, Freddie Mac, Los Angeles County Assessor’s Office, and more. In addition, past bank partners such as Union Bank, US Bank, Bank of the West, Bank of America, Boston Private and others have provided their expertise related to mortgage and financial products. Thefairswill include plenary sessions covering various homeownership topics (e.g. credit, home buying process, special bank products, down payment assistance) and foreclosure prevention assistance resources and programs. In addition, participants will have opportunities to visit exhibit booths for resource materials, speaking with industry experts, and prizes.

Description

The formation of this association was the outgrowth of regular get-togethers by several Chinese-speaking real estate licensees at the Sir George Restaurant in Alhambra. Their small talks shared commonality and the difficulties facing Chinese Americans in the real estate fields. A formal association known as Chinese American Real Estate Professionals Association of Southern California (CAREPASC) was born on February 5, 1983. The objectives for the Association were to unite the Chinese real estate professionals to exert beneficial influence upon the profession, to promote and maintain higher standards of conduct, to provide educational opportunities for members’ professional and self improvement, and to further the interest of home ownership by providing real estate related seminars. CAREPASC was now introduced to the real estate community.

The Association formally incorporated in 1994 began to share many joint activities in Chinese with other Asian organizations. It also opened relationships with other REALTORS(r) associations. A monthly Chinese language newsletter was published from translations of articles on real estate practices, trends and news so that real estate practitioners who may have a language barrier in reading industry magazines may better understand the information. In1999, it was changed to an English only format along with all Association activities. Social mixers into the mainstream were ever popular.
