ORGANIZATION: Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County

VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION

Volunteer Ambassadors help us engage the community by serving as representatives of Second Harvest Food Bank at fairs, speaking engagements, food and fund drives, children’s tours, and various other community events. Volunteer Ambassadors must have a passion for fighting hunger and increasing awareness of the issue of hunger in Orange County and Second Harvest’s work. Serving as an Ambassador is a great way to learn more about the issue of hunger, meet new people, and get to know Orange County area events and organizations all while serving the community!

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 22 years of age
  • One-year commitment and minimum of three Second Harvest events per year required
  • Submit application and resume, and complete screening and interview
  • Attend a tour of the food bank, volunteer in our Food Distribution Center and at a food distribution site (must first complete a background check)
  • Attend Volunteer Ambassador orientation and training (1 hour)
  • Attend refresher trainings when needed/suggested

HOW THIS ROLE IS TIED TO OUR MISSION

The role of the Volunteer Ambassador is not to be an expert, but to broadly understand the mission of Second Harvest, articulate that mission to our diverse community and help the community connect with us - through donating food and funds, volunteering, advocating, or through direct connections to services and programs.

HOURS

Second Harvest events occur during regular business hours, at night, and on the weekends. We ask for a one year time commitment and for you to attend three ambassador events within that time frame.

TRAINING

Training and shadowing experience will be provided by Volunteer Department staff and current volunteer ambassadors. Second Harvest commits to keeping Ambassadors informed by providing trainings and educational materials on the work of Second Harvest and hunger in Orange County throughout their time as a volunteer.
