Help young struggling readers achieve Grade Level literacy .

Volunteers age 50+ needed! Join Experience Corps and work with children to help build their reading skills. Two afternoons weekly. No experience needed; we provide everything you need: training, tutoring program to follow and all materials, and support. We are located in Greater New Haven, CT. Description

The Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut, Inc. (AASCC) serves the needs of older adults, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers.

AASCC provides information and referrals, administers programs that assist individuals in the community, offers volunteer opportunities and employment counseling and placement and awards grants to community organizations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 50
  • Orientation or Training
  • Training takes place over several days in October including practices. November to June: tutor 1 -4 hours/day twice weekly (M/W or T/Th), attend monthly 1-hour meeting for peer learning and supervision, and attend additional workshops.
  • Must: enjoy working with young children, be patient, open-minded and flexible; follow a tutoring session structure. High school diploma or equivalent required. Free federal and state background check.
