EcoWorks is a 501c3 non-profit organization in New Haven working to creatively engage the community in materials reuse to help protect the environment and build local collaboration and resilience. As a 99% volunteer-run organization, EcoWorks appreciates and relies on the involvement of community members with a diverse set of skills to assist in all aspects of the non-profit. Currently we are seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to work with our two store managers, Pat and Trish, to recruit, train, and schedule volunteers according to their interests and skills to accomplish EcoWorks tasks and projects.

EcoWorks uses VolunteerMatch as the primary recruiting tool, however we also have a volunteer sign-up sheet in the reuse center and offer sign-up sheets at our off-site events. Other suggestions on further recruitment methods are welcome. The Volunteer Coordinator may chose to recruit volunteers during store hours and/or outside of store hours. Volunteer orientation and training, as well as task / project accomplishment can also be arranged for during or outside of store hours. Store hours are Thursdays from 1-7pm, Fridays from 4:30-7pm, Saturdays from 10am-4pm, and Sundays from 1-3pm.

The Volunteer Coordinator is also welcome to attend committee meetings, such as the Outreach Committee and Programming Committee meetings, in order to assist their events by recruiting new volunteers or networking the committee with current volunteers. There is a once a month staff meeting that the Volunteer Coordinator is asked to attend, typically 7-8pm on a Thursday evening. If unable to attend, it is asked that information about volunteer recruitment and activities be shared for the meeting through email or phone call, etc., prior to the meeting.

EcoWorks has a broad base of volunteer support (70 volunteers on file) with about 15 volunteers that attend regularly each week. Recruiting more regularly attending volunteers would be ideal for expanding store hours, as well as recruiting specialized volunteers for specific events and projects. EcoWorks is well-received by the community and welcomes volunteers from many diverse backgrounds and skill-sets as part of our mission to build strong ties with others in the greater New Haven area. We look forward to welcoming you to the team!
