Habitat for Humanity of Jacksonville (HabiJax) is seeking Volunteer Tutors to provide academic support to students enrolled in the Hicks Prep Club. Tutors will work with students individually or as a small group.
Program Description
The Hicks Program consists of the Hicks Prep Club (HPC) and Scholarship. The Hicks Prep Club is an academic enrichment program for students in grades 7th through 12th who reside in Jacksonville Housing Authority, Section 8, or HabiJax housing. The program is administered by HabiJax in partnership with the Jacksonville Housing Authority (JHA) and provided by David and Ann Hicks in cooperation with the University of North Florida (UNF).
Essential Volunteer Position Duties and Responsibilities
Volunteer tutors may be asked to provide assistance to students with any of the following: homework help, review learning material covered in the Hicks Prep Club meetings, prepare for the SAT/ACT, aide in finding work experience, or prepare college applications.
Education, Experience, and Job Requirements
- Experience teaching or tutoring especially in Middle/High School and/or Duval County Public School
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and an enthusiastic attitude
- High level of emotional intelligence and ability to work with a diverse group of people
- Commitment to the core values and mission of HabiJax
- Exhibit patience, kindness, and respect towards others
- Available in the evenings and/or weekends
- Must commit to a minimum of 3 hours a month
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 3 months
- Able to pass a background check and provide copy of valid Driver’s License and auto insurance
- Minimum Bachelors or Associates Degree
- Minimum age requirement is 18 years old
