Seeking Volunteers that can assist virtually with students on Mondays from/between 9am-11:30am.
Program/Department Overview:
The Adult Diploma Program (ADP) is a partnership with the Boston Public Schools (BPS) and enables adults to get a high school diploma rather than an equivalency. Classes in English, math, social studies, science, college and career readiness, and financial literacy follow a curriculum provided by BPS. The program assists students in obtaining the knowledge and skills needed to complete the BPS curriculum, obtain their high school diplomas and move into appropriate next steps such as college bridge programs, post-secondary education, skills training, employment, or promotions. Students tend to take anywhere from 15 months to three years to graduate.
Responsibilities:
ADP students come to tutoring assistance to get help with their classwork from science, social studies, and English classes. As a tutor, you will help proofread student work and identify errors, such as grammar and spelling mistakes. You will help students correct their work. You may help students do internet research for assignments, or teach them basic computer skills, such as how to copy/paste, or how to create a folder.
Currently, tutoring is currently entirely remote and happening over Zoom. Each student has different assignments that they are working on, and they have varying levels of familiarity with technology and academic skills. Students are broken up into individual breakout rooms at the start of tutoring and will work independently with tutors or with the instructor during the course of tutoring. Tutors will work with one (or on some rare occasions, two students) during tutoring, while the instructor will move between students and work with them. While tutors are typically one-on-one with the student, the instructor is there to provide support whenever needed. Typically, tutors will work with students who are working on essays and other writing heavy assessments, but this is not always the case. Regardless of the assessment, however, a steady and patient tutor is always an invaluable help!

- Strong English writing skills

- Ability to coach and teach, not to write for a student
