About

FriendshipWorks is holding its third annual walk-a-thon, The Walk to End Elder Isolation, and we need your help to make it the best one yet!

For almost 34 years, FriendshipWorks has been a pioneer in implementing simple and effective solutions to the serious health risks posed by social isolation in the elder community. Our vision is to end elder isolation. To date, FriendshipWorks has provided over half a million hours of donated care to 25,000 Boston-area seniors, a value of more than $10.5 million.

The Walk to End Elder Isolation will provide education about and build awareness of social isolation and its effects on elders, as well as raise critical funds to ensure isolated elders can get the help that they need. TOGETHER we can help end the epidemic of elder isolation and loneliness in the communities served by FriendshipWorks. We hope you will join us, and encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to walk or volunteer at the event with you!

About FriendshipWorks

Location:

105 Chauncy St, Suite 801, Boston, MA 02111, US

Mission Statement

FriendshipWorks, formerly MATCH-UP Interfaith Volunteers, recruits and trains caring individuals to assist elders living in the Boston area. Our mission is to decrease the isolation that too often comes with age and disability, to promote well being, and to enhance the quality of life of elders. We have seen firsthand the difference ongoing companionship and support can make both for our care recipients and our volunteers.

Description

FriendshipWorks offers a variety of support services to elders in the Boston area. We make friendship matches between volunteers and elders. Volunteers often provide companionship, read aloud, take walks, or assist someone with errands. In addition to ongoing companionship, FriendshipWorks provides one-time assistance such as volunteer escorts to and from medical appointments and respite for family caregivers.
