Homestead Hospice is starting a project 'Last Wish' that needs volunteers to meet with patients to determine their last wishes, then meet with administration to determine how these wishes can be met. Sometimes its as easy as making the patient know that their wish was heard. For instance if they want to go to the beach one last time, we give them a bottle of sand and put up a poster of the ocean then put a floppy hat on their head with sunglasses and sit with them to admire their little piece of the beach. These Last Wishes helps the patients feel a sense of completion so they can feel more prepare for what is next for them.
Junior volunteers (18 and younger) must be accompanied by a guardian.
Homestead hospice provides materials for the required drug screening and tuberculosis skin test.
