Do you want to use your green thumb to fight hunger? The Food Bank Production and Learning Garden is a 1-acre urban farm on Food Bank property. We grow fresh, healthy food to feed our neighbors and teach free gardening classes to help people learn how to grow food themselves. The Garden Volunteer Leader will help lead other volunteers while gaining firsthand experience in organic gardening.
The Garden Volunteer Leader will:
* Supervise and instruct other volunteers in basic gardening tasks like pulling weeds and harvesting
* Support garden education events by carrying materials, directing people, and/or teaching gardening topics to children
* Plant and harvest seasonal fruits and vegetables
* Prepare garden beds by digging and raking
* Start seedlings in the greenhouse
* Operate and repair simple drip irrigation
* Wash, weigh and bundle garden produce
If you are interested in learning about gardening in Central Texas and helping feed your neighbors, consider becoming a Garden Volunteer Leader. No prior knowledge or experience is needed, but we do require that you commit to coming at least once a week for 4 months.
