Do you love cooking or organic foods? Do you care about hunger and want to give back to New Yorkers?
Lantern Community Services champions the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are formerly homeless or have recently aged out of foster care recreate their lives. Our programs with proven results in health, employment, education and life skills are delivered inside our residences and tailored to each person’s needs.
Lantern is looking for volunteers who can give 1-2 hours each week to help give out an assortment of seasonal fruits, vegetables, eggs and grains sourced from regional farmers through the Fresh Food Box program. Volunteers will help put out food and distribute it to residents. Food 4 Life culinary classes are paired with Fresh Food Box and teaches our clients how to cook and stretch their budgets. Both Fresh Food Box and Food 4 Life classes are a great way connect with residents!
This opportunity is available immediately at three of our locations (one location in the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn):
- Melrose, Bronx location: Fresh Food Box or Food 4 Life, Mondays, 2:30pm-4:30pm
- Upper West Side, Manhattan location: Fresh Food Box, Wednesdays, 12pm-1pm
- Brownsville, Brooklyn location: Fresh Food Box, Tuesdays, 2:30-3:30pm
All of Lantern’s locations are accessible by public transportation.

Description
Lantern is grounded in the mission to champion the independence and well-being of New Yorkers who are impacted by or threatened with homelessness. Our objective is to make sure that our residents can find and maintain stable housing through emergency shelter and supportive housing. Our on-site social services bring residents and staff together to create opportunities for personal recovery, wellness and growth. We have 16 supportive housing buildings located in Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx, and three shelters based in Manhattan and Queens.
