GERA's Executive Team

GERA is seeking a summer volunteer to help raise over $100,000 for the organization's annual operating budget. You will be helping the Executive team implement a development strategy that includes special events, and outreach to new and existing donors and foundations.

The position will provide substantial experience in nonprofit development and management, grant writing, events planning, researching donor prospects, and solicitation strategizing. This opportunity will provide valuable experience working in a developing human rights organization that focuses on refugee advocacy and support. We ask that you take a leadership role in your own project, depending on your experience and availability. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

Foundations:

  • Research appropriate foundations to apply for funding
  • Conduct external research on GERA’s program priorities to use in writing proposals
  • Assist with writing and copy editing of proposals and reports

Events:

  • Support events meant to tap into new fundraising markets
  • Depending on availability, provide assistance at key events to greet and interact with potential donors

Membership / Major Donors:

  • Build outreach to potential donors
  • Help conduct research into new fundraising markets
  • Provide support sending mailings and invitations
  • Help provide current donors and members with information requests
  • Help maintain database records
  • Assist in administrative duties, including envelope stuffing, file cleaning, and data entry

Qualifications: We expect the work requires 15-20 hours per week (negotiable), some hours fall between 9:30am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday, other events may involve weeknights or weekends. While this position is remote, residency in Northern New Jersey or the NYC area is strongly advised. Prior experience in donor management and/or fundraising is an asset.

We are seeking a motivated and responsible college student or professional looking to gain experience working with a nonprofit. The position requires that you have a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and self-initiative. A candidate should have an interest in GERA’s vision: to help create, advocate for, and manifest a world in which every refugee, migrant, or displaced person receives the basic necessities to ensure that they live a healthy and just life. Volunteers must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and Google products. You should be comfortable working independently, but also be able to work with a team.

Compensation: This is a volunteer position. We encourage you to use this opportunity to gain course credit or seek out "work-study" grants with your college, if that is an option.

Application: Please send an updated resume with a cover letter. The cover letter should identify which of the responsibilities and areas of fundraising interest you. Please provide information on your availability (the estimated days and times you will be available to work) in the cover letter. Send your resume and cover letter to Volunteer@Gera-ngo.org as a Microsoft Word (.doc) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.
