ORGANIZATION: Alameda Boys & Girls Club

Pea pod in hand

Whether you love kids and plants or just love plants, you could be a garden mentor! Our 1/4 acre organically grown garden with 31 raised beds, greenhouse, bio-remediation area and compost bins could always use some extra care and knowledgeable eyes. We teach about six garden classes every week to ages 5-18.

  • Green Thumb Garden Mentor: See areas of expertise below that you could help out with (flexible schedule)! Opportunities exist for horticulture students to put new skills into practice.
  • Young Gardener Mentor: Connect one-on-one with budding gardeners. Train their eyes to spot changes and problems find causes and think through solutions. Arrive before class starts to do a walk through, see what merits special attention this week, and help set up supplies.

Schedule changes in the summer vs school year, but mentors are needed year round for weekly commitments or simply to be on call for topical expertise.
