POSTED , 2018 -San Jose-based Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care is seeking a graduate-level public health student to work closely with our team. The Intern’s primary goal will be to structure and promote educational outreach events designed to improve Geriatric Veterans’ services in our community. This will include conducting field research to facilitate an understanding of the needs in our community regarding Elderly Veterans as they approach end-of-life. The Intern will align program development to meet the above-mentioned identified needs. S/he will evaluate existing survey data to assess the current quality of service provided to veterans who use Seasons Hospice care.

As a benefit to the Intern, Seasons will provide training and guidance to allow for an in-depth understanding of hospice care: Federal and State policy requirements, the role of Medicare vs. private insurance benefits, and ethical and philosophical implications of hospice care in 2018. The Intern will work directly with our team of doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, music therapists, and home health aides.

The internship requires a minimum of 150 hours and a maximum of 400 hours, with absolute flexibility regarding weekly schedule and timeframe. The position is structured with the understanding that the Intern will take vacations, has the option to alter the schedule from week-to-week, and can potentially complete certain tasks from home.

The internship is not a paid position. Recommendation letters will be provided after 80 hours have been completed.
