Resident Camp
The fun awaits! We guarantee you will get more out of this than you put in.

Remember the magical days at Camp when you made new friends, gained some independence, learned new songs and skits, and looked up to your counselors as role models and leaders? If so, the YMCA has a great opportunity for you to be a role model for youth this summer who attend Camp Round Meadow in Big Bear, California. The YMCA is looking for mentors, role models, and leaders to spend a week of their summer at Camp and help youth gain confidence as some of them experience their first week away from home while they learn to make new friends and discover their talents. We are seeking dedicated, motivated, energetic staff members to be role models for the campers to help them learn and grow in their time at sleep away camp. As a role model, counselors will be responsible for the general safety, development, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. Counselors will also be providing supervision, direction, unending enthusiasm and positive reinforcement. It is of paramount importance to be a patient leader. Counselors will need to understand, follow, and enforce safety guidelines and emergency procedures associated with the camp program. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and being aware of their whereabouts at all times. Counselors must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which may include crafts, nature hikes, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, archery, zip line, swimming, team building initiatives, Low Ropes/High Ropes course, physical games, and activities. All volunteers will complete first aid, CPR, and AED training as well as Child Abuse Prevention training. Qualified applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Email Camp Director Shelby Parrish at shelbyparrish@ymcala.org to get more information!

Mission Statement

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that help healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Description

Ys offer the programs we do for a reason. Young people need safe and enriching environments to try new things, develop skills, meet new people and show what they're capable of. Achieving and maintaining health in spirit, mind and body makes for a richer life and giving back to neighbors and those in need is our responsibility as neighbors, colleagues and citizens. The Y defines our areas of focus--the programming you're part of every day--like this:

Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of every child and teen

We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why, through the Y, millions of youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.

Healthy Living: Improving the nation’s health and well-being In communities across the nation, the Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. With a mission centered on balance, the Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, millions of youth, adults and families are receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.

Social Responsibility: Giving back and providing support to our neighbors
