Hospice Community Care, Newport News, Virginia is experiencing unprecedented growth in the Williamsburg, Virginia area. We have an urgent need for Friendly Visitor Volunteers to offer warmth, compassion and friendship for our terminally ill patients. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
Our patients typically have a life expectancy of six months or less. Some patients live less than six months, some live longer. Your role as a volunteer will be to make whatever time the patient has left as meaningful and pleasant as possible. You might take your patient for a walk outside on a warm day. You might read to your patient or play cards or simply have a conversation about their life.
In order to volunteer, you cannot be court ordered to perform volunteer work and you must have a clean criminal history record as well as a clean driving record. You will need to have a TB test performed in our Newport News office at no cost to you. You will then undergo training to help you know as much as you can to be of service to your patient.
Does this sound like an opportunity you would like to pursue? Call Cynthia Vereen-Anderson, Volunteer Coordinator at 804-290-0951 or send an email in response to this ad. Please include your telephone number so you can be contacted as soon as possible.
We look forward to hearing from you!
