Opening Minds thru Art

Easterseals is looking for volunteers for an exciting new program that blends art and social interaction. Following the award-winning Opening Minds through Art curriculum which was developed at Miami University, OMA volunteers will work directly with artist participants with developmental disabilities maximizing the possibility of creative expression. This failure free approach to art-making sessions builds the artists’ confidence and promotes the growth of close relationships between the artist and the volunteer.

Work one-on-one with an individual with a developmental disability and/or dementia once a week guiding them in creating an original piece of art.

Volunteers must be comfortable with development disability and dementia populations. No art experience necessary.

Volunteers commit to a two hour volunteer session once a week for ten weeks (September 11 - November 15), and can choose their preferred shift from the following: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, 9:30-11:30 AM or 11:30 AM-1:30 PM.

Volunteers also attend six hours of mandatory training from the following options:
  • Tuesdays: 8/28/18 and 9/4/18, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
  • Wednesdays: 8/29/18 and 9/5/18, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
  • Thursdays: 8/30/18, and 9/6/18, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM
  • Saturday, 9/8/18, 8:00 am - 3:00 PM
