Mission Statement

Birthright's mission is to maintain a crisis center where any pregnant girl or woman, wed or unwed, may find help as near as her telephone. By placing a call to the crisis center, she will be aided to mobilize her own resources and those of the community so that she may face the future and plan constructively for herself and her child.

Description

Birthright is a non-profit, interdenominational, non-political, emergency pregnancy service offering the alternative to abortion. It is staffed by volunteers. The office has rooms for answering the phone and for friendship counseling, baby clothes, and maternity clothes. Birthright of Greater Meriden's trained volunteer friendship counselors staff the office an average of 25 hours per week.

Birthright's ongoing presence of trained volunteer friendship counselors are available to pregnant women who may be distressed by their situations. Volunteers provide free pregnancy testing, friendship counseling, community resource information, maternity and baby clothes, and referrals to professionals for medical, legal, and psychological aid.
