Description: Volunteers with Ampersand are trained to be advocates for individuals and communities affected by sexual violence in the Bluegrass. Volunteers are a crucial part of all programs at Ampersand, and have direct, significant impact on individual clients and the larger community through their involvement.

Essential Duties:

  1. Provide telephone support via our 24-hour support hotline.
    • listen to and believe survivor stories
    • give accurate information on survivor rights, resources, and opportunities for support
  2. In-person support for individuals affected by sexual violence in local emergency rooms
    • meet survivors at the hospital to provide emotional support, information and referral
    • support friends and family of survivors
    • coordinate with other professionals to assure high level of care for survivors
  3. Assist with awareness raising activities such as information tabling and presentations with community partners
Requirements
  • minimum 20 years of age
  • access to personal vehicle with valid drivers license and appropriate level of insurance
  • personal telephone
  • ability to pass a background and reference check
  • evening and weekend availability
  • complete the 40-hour volunteer training provided by Ampersand
  • willing to drive up to 1 hour as part of duties

Description

Ampersand Sexual Violence Resource Center serves the Bluegrass Area Development District in Central Kentucky. Ampersand is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing a 24-hour support hotline, advocacy, medical accompaniment, and free counseling to survivors of sexual assault, their friends and families. We also work with community partners to provide free prevention education on topics such as healthy relationships, bystander intervention, bullying, and much more.
