What will you do to make a difference when you retire?

IMPORTANT: If you apply for this volunteer position and haven't heard from me within a week, check your junk mail to see if my email got sent to the spam folder by mistake. I usually respond to inquiries within a few days. - Bob Boyd, Guilford County SHIIP Coordinator

Help SHIIP (Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program) make a difference in the town of Pleasant Garden by counseling the elderly and people with disabilities about Medicare Plan choices at the Pleasant Garden Town Hall. Extensive training provided. There's an online, open-book course and lots of in house training. You don't begin counseling until you feel knowledgeable enough and comfortable enough to start. No pressure, and you can take you time.

When you do start counseling, you have back up with a special phone number to Medicare and one to SHIIP in Raleigh. You also can contact me, Bob Boyd, anytime with questions.

This is an enormously rewarding volunteer opportunity. You gain in depth knowledge about Medicare and you help a lot of people. Sometimes you save them a lot of money. Last year SHIIP saved people in North Carolina 44.3 million dollars.

This is important to know: As SHIIP Counselors we cannot recommend plans or tell people what to do. We demystify Medicare for them and provide them with enough knowledge to make the best choices for their health care needs. Best of all, our service iscost-free.

For our counselors, there is immense satisfaction in making a difference in the lives of many people and in the mentally stimulating enjoyment of counseling clients.
