Want to be part of The Aquarium? Love being outside? We are seeking someone who has a love of horticulture (no experience necessary). This opening would involve working as a team, but more often independently (once trained), in the installation and maintenance of a botanical collection of Florida native species in naturalistic habitats using environmentally responsible husbandry practices in indoor and outdoor exhibits. Performs general lawn, landscape, and nursery maintenance.

Essential Position Functions

  • Services to include weeding, pruning, spraying, and basic irrigation maintenance of numerous potted plants
  • Maintains tools and equipment necessary for the care of the botanical collection
  • Follows environmentally responsible practices which reflect concern for the botanical collection
  • Delivers extraordinary customer service to all aquarium guests and internal customers

Secondary Functions

  • Assists with care of conservatory-style interior environments, exterior exhibit landscaping and the botanical nursery
  • Assists with opening the wetlands gallery in the morning
  • Provide clean-up of plant / tree debris / limbs etc. during planting and maintenance projects, including putting away, cleaning / organizing tools and equipment

Schedule

We currently have openings Monday - Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. Hours can vary within that time-frame. A 3-hour minimum shift is preferred.

Typical Physical Requirements

Possibility of standing and walking during entire shift
Climbing stairs and ladders
Carrying/lifting up to 30lbs.
Work in all weather conditions including heat, humidity, rain, cold and dust while indoors
