Event Description:
Poetry in America, a new twelve-part series airing on PBS this Spring, aims to bring communities together through poetry. Each episode features a poem read by a public figure, with a conversation led by Elisa New, series host and director and the Powell M. On June 4 we will screen one episode from this series which features The New Colossus, Emma Lazarus’s iconic sonnet of immigration. The program will feature singer-songwriter Regina Spektor, activist and founder of the United We Dream Foundation Cristina JimĂ©nez, President of the American Federation of Teachers Randi Weingarten, financier and philanthropist David Rubenstein, and poet Duy Doan. After the screening, guests will be joined by Leah Reis-Dennis, the co-founder of Verse Video Education and producer of Poetry in America and others who contributed to the series for an in-depth conversation which will take guests behind-the-scenes to learn more about the making of this exciting series.
