You Can Make a Difference as a Volunteer Patient Escort with Planned Parenthood!
Patient escorts welcome patients, their companions, and other visitors to our health centers. They are a friendly, calm, and supportive presence during protest activity and help patients by serving as an empathetic and non-judgmental distraction during health appointment arrivals and departures.
PPGNHI is looking for compassionate people to join our incredible Tacoma Volunteer Patient Escort Team!
Duties:
The Tacoma health center volunteers are scheduled for a minimum of 2 shifts per month on Tuesday mornings or on Thursday mornings or afternoons. A minimum 6-month commitment is required.
Abilities Required:
- Must be highly reliable
- The ability to remain calm in the face of loud and very negative protest activity
- The ability to follow a non-engagement policy and refrain from interactions with protesters
- Strong communication skills
- Must be comfortable working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and racial diversity
- Positive and supportive customer service skills
- The ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
- Must be able to work in an outdoor environment to greet health center visitors and walk with them into the facility
- Must be able to follow PPGNHI Patient Escort protocols at all times

PPGNHI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We rely heavily on support from donors to accomplish our mission. PPGNHI has 28 health centers in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, and Western Washington.
