South Sound Green Tour Tacoma Logo

The Northwest EcoBuilding Guild is recruiting volunteers (ages 18+) to be Greeters for a three hour shift at the May 20 th South Sound Green Tour.

What is the South Sound Green Tour?
The SSGT is an annual self-guided tour, organized by the Guild and its green built environment experts to showcase energy-efficient, sustainable construction and spark ideas for more.

What do volunteers do?
Greeters are the face of the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild for the day. The homeowner(s), contractors and vendors will also be present. Your role as a Greeter is to make guests feel welcome and answer questions if you can. A second, vital role is to track attendance and ensure that everyone coming into the venue has signed a waiver as part of their ticket acquisition. The waiver is essential to protect the site and the Guild from liability. Detailed instructions and materials will be provided.

Greeters give the following:

  • Attendance at a (strongly encouraged) training and networking event on May 17 at 5:30pm (dinner provided!)
  • Volunteers are invited to meet site hosts and tour organizers at Tacoma Green Drinks on May 3 at 6pm at Peaks and Pints.
  • Three hours of their time on May 20, 2018. The tour is 11 am-5 pm and there are 2 shifts per day. The first shift is from 10:45 - 2:00pm and the second shift is from 1:45 - 5:00pm. Greeters are welcome to sign up for both shifts and volunteer the whole day (10:45 - 5:00pm)

Greeters get the following:

  • The satisfaction of knowing that Tour participants may make a lifestyle shift due to your enthusiasm,
  • Exposure to the membership and leadership of the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild, a source of ideas, networking, jobs and,
  • An awesome, fun volunteer appreciation after party following the Tour!

If you’d like to be a Greeter, or if you have questions, please send an email with your contact information and preferred shift time to Michelle at mbrownell@cityoftacoma.org. You will be sent more details about the volunteer training, day of logistics and the after-party.

Mission Statement

OUR MISSION is to support through education the progressive work of our members in the Pacific Northwest in order to improve the relationship between our communities and our built environment.

We provide open-source educational materials to the construction industry and the general public in order to encourage building practices that dramatically reduce carbon emissions, are self-sustaining, contribute to local economies, and create optimal conditions for human health and community.

We consider the needs of the seventh generation in all that we do and encourage inclusive discourse to that end.

Within the Guild community there is a strong emphasis on thought-leadership, community, integrity, sustainability, innovation, education and fun. These values are the foundation for all Guild programs, and are carried forward by the Guild Chapters and members alike.

Description

The Northwest EcoBuilding Guild is a 501(c)(3) community of builders, designers, suppliers, homeowners, and partners concerned with ecological building in the Pacific Northwest. The Guild empowers people through education to transform the built environment for long term sustainability.

The Guild was founded in 1993 by a small group of professionals already incorporating green building ideas into their practices. They formed the Guild in order to network, learn and exchange ideas related to their areas of expertise. The Guild has now grown to three chapters serving the diverse bioregions of Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia.
