The Helotes Humane Society operates a dog park at our location at 10675 Shaenfield Rd. This property is approximately 2 acres and includes 3 fenced areas for dogs to play, as well as a parking lot, Thrift Shop, Helotes Humane Society offices and "Fort Bark" (an exercise area for our resident dogs).
The property is very nice with several large pecan trees, fruit trees and other plants.
We are always looking for people that enjoy working outside. A number of tasks always need to be done including the following:
- weed eating
- weeding (by hand)
- picking up branches
- picking up trash
We have most of the equipment you would need to do lawn work but you are welcome to bring your own equipment as well. All volunteers are required to become "members" of our organization if you intend to volunteer on a regular basis. Cost is $25 for adults and $20 for students of any age. This fee helps us cover your insurance and you get an HHS t-shirt. If you want to volunteer one a one -time or temporary basis, no fee is required, however you do need to sign a liability waiver in our office. Volunteers who can work independently are needed for this work. Teenagers (16/17) can volunteer for lawn work if another adult is present to supervise.
