Meal policy researchers needed to limit lunch shaming!

We are launching a crowdsourced project to identify every school district policy on what happens to students who don't have the money to purchase meals. Depending on the school, these students may be subjected to public stigmatization or punishment by the school itself, a practice known as "lunch shaming."

We feel that these matters are best resolved between schools and parents; feed the children and leave them out of it. If you agree, help us find policies by adding to this document: sc.org/mealcharges.

Here are the instructions:
1. Go to the spreadsheet and find a school district where we haven't identified their policy yet.
2. Visit the school district's website and look through their nutrition section.
3. Hopefully you'll find a relevant document or webpage on the school district's website. [NOTE: Ignore free/reduced meal applications and USDA information.]
4. Fill out the "Link to Lunch Debt Policy" column with the URL. If obvious, fill out the "Date of Policy" column. [NOTE: Please flag if the school district doesn't serve or charge for meals, or it allows each school to set their own policy in the "Link to Lunch Debt Policy" column. If you can't find the policy, mark "no policy found."]
5. Enter the URL for the school district's nutrition page in the "School Nutrition Webpage" column.
6. Research as much or as little as you want, but please let us know what you found.
