Volunteers that are passionate about technology and sharing their knowledge with the next generation of leaders and doers are at the core of our mission. CodeNow brings tech industry professionals, bootcamp grads, and CS college student together with local high schools students who have a curiosity for problem-solving. By working side-by-side with CodeNow volunteers the teens are transformed into coders, designers, and entrepreneurs.

The process of registering to be a part of the CodeNow Workshop continues by filling out the Volunteer Information Form.

Workshop Overview
CodeNow's Workshop will take place on May 12th & 13th, and May 19th & 20th. Instructors will lead a small group of students (about 6-8) through different presentations, learning activities, and programming projects during these sessions. Our workshops are approximately 30-40, boys and girls, and most of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch at school.

Volunteer Requirements
Employees working in design and product management are preferred for Weekend 1, and employees who are software developers/engineers are needed for Weekend 2. The commitment for each volunteer is a single Saturday and single Sunday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

For Weekend 1, volunteers should have a working knowledge of design thinking and product management processes, and an intermediate understanding of HTML & CSS.

For Weekend 2, volunteers should have programming experience in any language. One-third of our volunteers do not know Ruby before taking part in a Workshop and have found the experience of picking up a new language rewarding.

Teaching experience is helpful to have but not necessary. We provide all our volunteers with a training session, the CodeNow Handbook, and unlimited access to our Learning Platform in preparation for working with our students and our curriculum.

A volunteer's responsibilities include attending an instructors’ training session (virtual using Amazon Chime), reviewing the curriculum, instructor's guides, and reading the CodeNow Handbook beforehand (accessible on our Learning Platform).

Please remember to fill out the Volunteer Information Form!
