College Access Mentors (CAMs) are paired one-to-one with a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in High School to work on personal/professional development goals that will help students become more prepared for higher education. Commitments of CAMs include:
1. Speaking with their student every week via phone, email, or in person. Communication weekly generally averages about 1 hour each week, but on busier weeks for the pair, communication may be less.
2. Attend once a month personal/professional development workshops and check-ins. These will be on one Saturday every month from 3-4:30 pm. Some topics we have covered in the past are: resume building, eassay writing, and time management.
3. Meet bi-weekly with your student if students, parents, and mentors are comfortable doing so.
4. Encouraged to attend any Saturday College Readiness trips or workshops in our Saturday Mentoring and Enrichment Program (there are generally 2-3 of these per semester, and are not required).
5. Fill out bi-weekly Google forms to inform Adelante staff on mentorship progress. (This takes roughly 5 mins bi-weekly)
If you are interested, we would love to have you! Mentors go through a 30 minute interview and then attend a mandatory orientation where they will meet students and receive their student pair that day!
