Description

Project Host has food-based programs to help those in need. The Soup Kitchen offers a balanced, nutritious meal each day in a safe, clean and caring environment to all who are hungry. Hundreds of volunteers offered their time and energy in preparing and serving over 37,000 meals last year alone. Our Evening Meals program partners with local churches to provide hot meals in communities with identifiable needs. In 2017, we served over 6,700 meals to those in need. The C.C. Pearce Culinary School teaches culinary and life skills to chronically unemployed and underemployed people in order to gain and sustain employment. The 11-week program includes hands-on food preparation, ServSafe food-safety instruction, and employment readiness lessons to prepare people for a career path that will lead them towards financial stability. Cooking for Kids utilizes our culinary students to make freshly prepared meals for children of low-income families. We partner with local childcare agencies to provide food for hundreds of children who may not receive regular meals at home. The project served nearly 100,000 meals in 2017. Our onsite garden and greenhouse have grown into Gardening for Good, a place for gardening resources and partnerships. The Bakery provides additional training and creates jobs for our culinary students and graduates through custom catering and baking.
