Position : AALEAD Day Event Support Volunteer
Location : Silver Spring, MD

Asian American LEAD Youth Leadership Empowerment and Development (AALEAD) is a youth development organization. Our mission is to support low-income and underserved Asian Pacific American youth with educational empowerment, identity development, and leadership opportunities through after school, summer, and mentoring programs. AALEAD is holding our second annual AALEAD Day, a culminating end of the year event that brings together youth from our after school and mentoring programs from all over the DC metropolitan area (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) from elementary school students to college students. This year’s AALEAD Day also honors our 20th anniversary serving youth in the DC metropolitan area with the theme Origins: Rooted in Our Past, Creating Our Future.
AALEAD is seeking volunteers to provide day-of event support with the following tasks:
- Setting up venue with decorations and activity stations
- Managing the sign in and registration table
- Setting up and serving food
- Providing event photography
- Running activities and arts/crafts stations
- Cleaning up venue after the event
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age and older
- Must be able to provide positive interactions with youth
Logistics
- The venue is metro-accessible from Silver Spring Station
- Specific instructions and details will be sent to confirmed volunteers

Description
We are the leading community organization that provides educational enrichment and youth development programs to low-income and underserved Asian American youth in the Washington, D.C., metro area. Our highly dedicated staff and Board deliver specialized after school programs, one-on-one mentoring, academic support resources, and life skill development for students through After School, Summer, and Mentoring Programs. We also assist parents with school related issues affecting their children. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment and culturally sensitive guidance so that each child we serve will be a contributing member of his or her community. Our programs currently serve over 300 students in the District of Columbia; Montgomery County, Maryland; and Fairfax County, Virginia, who represent more 16 different Asian ethnicities.
