Northwestern Settlement's Food Pantry provides neighbors access to fresh produce, poultry and meats, and non-perishable food items, as well as basic household/furniture items, hygiene necessities and articles of clothing. Neighbors can utilize the pantry’s services and receive food, clothing or furniture items twice each month.

The pantry is open five days a week:
Food distribution is available Monday through Thursday mornings and afternoons between 9:00am-11:00am & 1:00pm-3:00pm.
Clothing distribution takes place during the same morning & afternoon hours every Friday.

Volunteers are needed for support to move and stock food and other items, assist with check-in, distribute allotment of food items selected by neighbors, sort, organize and/or separate donated items, etc.

About Northwestern Settlement

Mission Statement

For 125 years, Northwestern Settlement has nurtured, educated, and inspired children and families in need in Chicago. Focusing on changing lives through education, social services, and the arts, Northwestern Settlement’s programs are fully integrated to meet the complex needs of our neighbors.

Description

Since its founding in 1891 by Northwestern University as an independent and financially separate institution, Northwestern Settlement has served Chicago’s West Town community by offering wrap-around services that meet the holistic needs of the predominantly low-income, minority, and immigrant populations we serve (our "neighbors").

Through a variety of wrap-around programs and services, Settlement staff and volunteers serve more than 40,000 neighbors each year. Current programming includes Rowe Elementary School, after school activities, year-round residential camping at House In The Wood, Head Start, Food Pantry, Emergency Service Program, Adventure Stage Chicago children's theatre, Neighborhood Bridges arts outreach, AmeriCorps, and the Golden Agers seniors club.

All programs are interwoven to provide a continuum of opportunities to the families who access our services. The Settlement provides resources to neighbors in three key areas: assistance for the immediate short-term crisis; knowledge, opportunities, and support to break out of poverty over the long-term; and access to a network of additional programs and services.
