Big Brothers Big Sisters - Pikes Peak
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Mentor2.0 matches high school students of Atlas Preparatory School with college-educated mentors in the Colorado Springs community, providing the students with support and guidance through their high career to prepare them for the future.
The majority of the mentorship is done over a secure online platform (iMentor), as a "pen pal mentorship" - this allows for busy professionals to flex their time-investment around their schedules. In addition, there are monthly events for in-person mentoring - hosted at Atlas Preparatory School and facilitated by Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Volunteers must be 21 years of age and have post-secondary education, certification, or training of some variety. Volunteers must also be able to pass an extensive background check that includes an FBI background check.
Volunteers must also be willing to commit to the program for four years, as we try to match freshman students with a mentor through graduation. Many of the students lack a role model who demonstrates consistency and commitment, and we want to provide that for them.
This is currently our highest need for volunteers. We will need around 130 volunteer mentors for the upcoming freshman class. This is a great opportunity for a corporation or business who would like their employees to get involved in community engagement; the employees can leave work together for the monthly events and be together as they invest in students' lives. It is an opportunity for group volunteering.
Please consider volunteering today! Also, please spread the word about this program! Again, this is our highest need for volunteers.
