Capitol Hill Ocean Week (CHOW) is the nation’s premier annual conference examining current marine,
coastal, and Great Lakes policy issues. Convened by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation every
June, CHOW brings together national and global stakeholders to address pressing science, conservation,
and management issues facing our ocean and Great Lakes.
This year’s conference will take place June 5-6, 2018 and includes many opportunities for volunteers as:
* Registration Greeters: Act as customer service liaison for conference, greet attendees and
speakers, hand out badges and materials, and answer questions as needed;
* Speaker Escorts: Greet speakers and escort them to the appropriate location in preparation for
their session;
* Question Card Runners: Collect written questions from audience for session moderators and
prepare room between sessions;
* Time Keepers: Set stage, prepare speakers for sessions, and work with moderators to ensure
sessions run on time;
* Production Liaisons: Work with production staff to coordinate on screen visuals during livestreamed
sessions;
* Notetakers: Take notes during CHOW sessions to capture content for communications materials
during and after conference.
* General: Assist conference staff and fill in for other volunteers as needed.
Volunteers should be available to serve for at least 3 half-day shifts (breaks will be provided) and to attend a
volunteer orientation on May 30th to familiarize themselves with their role and with Foundation staff. CHOW
gives volunteers the opportunity to meet and engage with stakeholders from government, non-profits, and
industry and attend engaging conversations on science, policy, and management while giving back to the
community.
If interested, please send your contact information, the roles you are interested in, and a brief
description of why you would like to be involved in the CHOW event to
