12 Bars of Charity

Help the Food Bank of Iowa check in attendees participating in the 12 Bars of Charity Bar Crawl in support of feeding hungry Iowans!

5:00pm-6:00pm: opening boxes of shirts and organizing them by size

6:00pm: Check-in begins

8:00pm: Food Bank of Iowa Staff or Volunteers will come to relieve you!

CHECK-IN STEPS:

Volunteers will be provided with a list of all attendees and their size 12 Bars of Charity shirts they ordered.

Attendees must present either their ticket OR photo ID before receiving their sweatshirt. Once they’ve received their sweatshirt, check the attendees name off the list.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize sweatshirts and fold onto the table
  • Check in attendees using their first and last names and checking their names off of the provided spreadsheet

Support/Training: A 12 Bars of Charity staff member will be at the entrance of the location to assist you (Please see FAQ's below!)

Qualifications: Must be aged 21+. Able to stand, move, bend and lift shirts onto the table.


FAQ’s for Check-In:

QUESTION: What if someone has a question I can’t answer?

ANSWER: There will be a 12 Bars of Charity staff member at all tables that will be wearing a lanyard with STAFF on it. Please send all questions you cannot answer to them.

QUESTION: What if someone isn’t on my paper list?

ANSWER: Please direct these people to a STAFF member.


QUESTION: What bars are all involved?

ANSWER: A full list of bars can be found on www.12BarsOfCharity.com

QUESTION: What drink specials does the night entail?

ANSWER: 8 PM - Midnight: Participating bars will all have Drink Specials and a full list can be found on 12BarsOfCharity.com

QUESTION: Where do the shuttles pick up?

ANSWER: The busses run continuous loops to all of the bars. The map of all venues can be found on www.12BarsOfCharity.com

QUESTION: What do the shuttles look like?

ANSWER: Big yellow school busses!

Description

From the time the dock doors opened in 1982, we have maintained our No. 1 priority - maximizing "food in - food out" to meet the critical needs of a diverse population through our network of partner agencies in 55 Iowa counties.

As a non-profit food bank, our primary role is to provide food to the charitable agencies offering direct service to hungry Iowans.

These partner agencies include:

  • Food pantries
  • Soup kitchens
  • Homeless shelters
  • Shelters for victims of domestic violence
  • Nonprofit day care centers
  • Residential care centers
  • Child and senior programs

Along with traditional food banking, the Food Bank of Iowa also operates three successful programs: Backpack Buddies, HUSH and the Fresh Produce Project.
