We are excited to let you know about the Lung Cancer Initiative’s 9th Annual Charlotte LUNGe Forward Celebration on Saturday, October 10, at McAlpine Creek Park. We need many volunteers to make this event happen and we invite you to participate in this important event.
Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer of American men and women. It kills more people than breast, prostate, and colon cancers COMBINED. It is described as the "invisible" cancer because so few people know they have the disease until it is advanced, and sadly, so few people survive the disease to advocate for increased awareness and research funding. For these reasons, we you’re your students and their families and friends will volunteer at the event this year! Students may also receive service hours for helping out with this event.
The Charlotte LUNGe Forward event is not only a race, but a walk for awareness of lung cancer. There will also be fun family-friendly activities and exhibitors, so there are many jobs for volunteers!
With your help, we can impact lives through funding vital lung cancer research, educational initiatives, awareness, and access programs for patients, advocates and healthcare professionals, and transforming what a diagnosis of lung cancer means for people and their families. In 2019, we had 648 people participate in the Charlotte LUNGe Forward event and helped the Lung Cancer Initiative raise more than $109,000. This year we anticipate more than 650 attendees with a fundraising goal of higher than last year. We need your help to make this event a success this year!
If you have questions or would like to volunteer to help with this event, please contact Madeline Hosking, the Charlotte LUNGe Forward Volunteer Coordinator at Madeline.Hosking@carolinashealthcare.org or soehler@lungcancerinitiativenc.org.
