ORGANIZATION: Animal Care Assistance Program

  • 1 person is interested

Animal Care Assistance Program, or ACAP as we are best known, is an all-volunteer, 501c3 non-profit animal welfare organization that helps low income pet owners get their dogs and cats to the veterinarian. Oftentimes our clients do not have transportation to their pets' veterinary appointments. That is where YOU come in!

By providing transportation to crated dogs and cats, you are the link between getting our clients' well-loved pets the veterinary care they often desperately need! We serve the counties of Louisa, Fluvanna, Albemarle, Greene, Buckingham, Nelson, Orange, and other central VA counties. We need dedicated, safe drivers who are willing to help drive all or some of the distance from our clients' homes to our clinics. Currently, ACAP uses the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA in Charlottesville, the Richmond SPCA in Richmond, Prevent-A-Litter in Carytown (Richmond) and Old Dominion Animal Hospital in Charlottesville. Many of our clients don't have cars or have unreliable transportation, or cannot afford the cost of gas from their rural homes to our clinics.

Volunteer as much or as little as you would like; we offer training and whether you're a "cat" or a "dog" person, we'll match you with the appropriate clients' pets.

A reliable car, good driving record and a willingness to help are all that you need!

About Animal Care Assistance Program

Location:

PO Box 803, Louisa, VA 23093, US

Mission Statement

To provide financial assistance to improve the health and comfort of companion animals and keep them with the people who love them; or to provide a sanctuary for those that cannot remain in their homes.

Description

Founded in 2015 by Susan Levi, ACAP helps low income pet owners with veterinary costs to prevent unnecessary suffering of animals and/or owners surrendering their pets to shelters due to problems that may be resolved with intervention and financial assistance. Our goal is to help keep people and pets together and when that is not possible, to either help homeless pets find new homes or provide them sanctuary if deemed not adoptable due to medical or behavioral reasons.

We help cats and dogs with preventative and interventional veterinary treatment by working closely with low cost veterinary clinics. When possible, ACAP will help with emergency and end of life care to ease their suffering. We work with municipal shelters, animal control officers, private veterinarians and other non-profit organizations in our region.
