Have a green thumb? We need your help!
We are looking for volunteer gardeners to maintain beds at the Milwaukee Women's Center this coming summer. MWC is an emergency housing shelter for women and children, usually in domestic violence situations. MWC provides food and shelter, and acts as a supportive transitional living center, assisting the residents in job and housing placement. Additionally, they have workshops for the residents to learn special skills.
This is where we come in! Since receiving grant approval, MASA will be installing a raised-bed garden and water barrel for MWC. Our workshops are related to gardening, health, and food. We're looking volunteers to maintain the garden once a week between workshops. We'll schedule 2 people per week -- feel free to bring a buddy, or we'll match you with someone else for that week's schedule. During the visit we would ask volunteers to weed, water, address any concerns with the garden, and offer overall basic maintenance.
Volunteers must be:
- Able to self-transport to MWC.
- Reliable, with a consistent schedule.
- Able to pass background check.
- Problem Solving
- Community Outreach
