ORGANIZATION: DAYS FOR GIRLS INTERNATIONAL

  • 9 people are interested

Days For Girls International is a non-profit dedicated to providing sustainable feminine hygiene kits and health education to girls throughout the world.

Imagine having to sit on a piece of cardboard for days or using rags, dirt, rocks or corn cobs to manage menstruation. This is reality for many girls. DFG kits give girls 'days back' and keep them in school so they can break the cycle of poverty, avoid teenage marriage and live with dignity.

Please join us to work on and assemble DFG Kits! Sewers with machines are welcome, but there are lots of non-sewing tasks as well. Adults and teens are best suited for this event. We are teaming up with women at the LDS Church in Tigard, Oregon for this event.

For more information or to RSVP, go to daysforgirls.org or email Leslie at portlandor@daysforgirls.org.

Mission Statement

To create a more free, dignified and educated world, through access to quality sustainable feminine hygiene solutions and community-based health leadership programs for EVERY girl and woman. Everywhere. Period. Days for Girls envisions a world where menstruation is no longer a source of shame and taboo. Through volunteers, through enterprises, and through public and private partnerships, Days for Girls is working to shift how women and girls see themselves and are seen by their communities. We offer girls and women with new life choices and spur narrative change, through providing sustainable hygiene solutions, health education, and income-generation opportunities. There are a lot of things that are hard to change in the world. This isn’t one of them. Join with us, and show what’s possible when we work together on behalf of women and girls.

Description

Days for Girls is dedicated to partnering with others to break the silence and deprivation that accompanies lack of women's sanitary solutions with a simple, direct and effective solution available to women month after month - DfG washable feminine hygiene kits. Every single Days for Girls kit enables a woman in an impoverished community to live her life without having to wait in her room or without the risk of infection. (Many use corn husks, leaves, bark, rocks, trash or ashes as sanitary supplies in an attempt to stay in school.) Every DfG kit gives back up to 3 months of living in just one year of use. In just nine years DfG volunteers have empowered hundreds of thousands of women in over 100 nations on 7 continents. Thanks to each DfG kit a young woman will have more freedom to participate in education. A mother will be able to work to help provide for her family. A woman will be more active in her community. This good can be multiplied times hundreds of thousands.

Because no woman should go without access to quality sanitary feminine hygiene.

We will do whatever it takes to reach the millions of women going without, building bridges and partnerships internationally until we've reached every one.
