The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Presents

man & woman of the year

Man & Woman of the Year is philanthropic competition to support blood cancer research among a group of motivated and dedicated individuals in communities across the United States. Candidates form powerful fundraising teams and compete in honor of two local children who are blood cancer survivors.

The man and woman who have raised the most funds during the ten-week campaign are awarded the prestigious title of Man or Woman of the Year.

Help us to celebrate the end of our 2019 Man & Woman of the Year Grand Finale Gala on May 4, 2019, at Ford Field in downtown Detroit. Our candidates will have been fundraising tirelessly for ten weeks and during this event, we will announce the Man and Woman who raised the most money as well as the total raised during the Campaign.

  • This event will be a sit-down dinner with silent auction, live auction, and donation appeal. The attire is Business Attire / Cocktail and the event will run from 6-9 PM that evening.
  • We will need volunteers to work shifts beginning at 4 00 PM and ending at 10 PM.
  • We request that you wear mainly black clothing, with Gold or Red color accents (dresses, dress shirts/pants).
  • Event-night volunteers will be provided a Buffet Style dinner when shift allows.

We will need volunteers to help with the following tasks during these shifts setting up; registration; helping with givesmart; greeters for our candidates as well as the Boy & Girl of the Year and their families; silent auction helpers; live auction spotters; donation appeal spotters; check out; runners for silent auction packages and tear down. There will be alcohol served at this event so we would prefer volunteers to be 21 years of age and older but will work with anyone 18-20.

We are also in need of setting up volunteers to help set up our silent auction during the early afternoon, around 1PM-4PM. If you are interested in this shift, please respond to this volunteer opportunity and let me know. For this shift, you are welcome to wear comfy clothes and tennis shoes.

Mission Statement

The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

We work tirelessly to find cures and ensure patients can access the lifesaving treatments they need. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a blood cancer diagnosis, we provide hope, compassion, education and support. Our impact is felt beyond blood cancer. The breakthrough treatments we helped advance for blood cancers are now improving the lives of people affected by many types of cancer.

Description

Volunteers are our partners in the crusade to end cancer.

In 2017, LLS volunteers made a significant impact while selflessly dedicating their time and talent to achieve our mission. With countless ways to engage, from fundraising to providing patient support, our volunteers are changing the landscape of cancer.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Michigan Chapter was founded in 1989 to serve residents who have been touched by one of the blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. The chapter serves the entire state with offices in Madison Heights and Grand Rapids.
