The 88 Project's mission is to support and encourage freedom of expression in Vietnam by sharing the stories of and advocating for Vietnamese activists who are persecuted because of their peaceful dissent.

The volunteer Vietnamese to English translator/editor is responsible for translating and editing news and original content covering human rights issues in Vietnam. This includes translating news articles selected by the Editor and Assistant Editor, writings and letters from political prisoners, activists at risk, and their families, from Vietnamese to English. This person will also proofread translations to check for accuracy and provide general copy editing support. These duties will help further the mission of The 88 Project by raising awareness of peaceful activism and providing international audiences with information that can be used in advocacy efforts to release political prisoners.

Responsibilities:
-- Translate one or two articles per month from Vietnamese to English
-- Proofread one or two articles per month
-- Complete all work in a timely fashion
-- Maintain work product confidentiality and basic data security measures

Qualifications:
-- Bilingual English-Vietnamese required
-- Previous translation and editing experience preferred
-- Interest in freedom of expression, human rights, Southeast Asia, and gender equality preferred
-- Previous nonprofit or human rights experience preferred

Description

We maintain several types of tools that international governments and advocates use to press for reform in Vietnam and the release of political prisoners, including our searchable Vietnamese Political Prisoner and Activist Database and Interactive Map. We have other tools to provide information on the human rights situation in Vietnam and to raise awareness about the subject, like our weekly newsletter, interviews with activists, and our social media platforms.
