Left Forum seeks volunteers to work alongside our experienced organizers and other volunteers in engaging our extensive list of speakers for our annual Left Forum Conference (to be held June 1st - 3rd, 2018).
ABOUT LEFT FORUM
Continuing a tradition that began in the 1960s, Left Forum convenes an international conference each year in New York City. The conference involves a broad spectrum of progressive intellectuals, organizers, and academics, who come together to share ideas to transform the world; to better understand commonalities, differences, and alternatives to current predicaments; and to engage a wide range of critical perspectives on the world. Left Forum 2017 drew approximately 4,000 participants for 400 panels.
ABOUT THIS VOLUNTEER POSITION
Every year, Left Forum staff, volunteers, and interns work to engage progressive, left, academic, and activist communities for our annual conference. One of the most important aspects of this work is outreach to past and potential speakers and panelists. The goal of this work is to encourage these people to join us once again as speakers by submitting a panel proposal. Specific task-examples include phone and email outreach, correspondence with speakers leading up to the conference, outreach strategy collaboration, and more.
The ideal person for this role is someone who is committed to social justice, self-motivated, comfortable taking on project-coordination and engaging in outreach via phone and email, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to bring creative ideas into organizational and administrative processes. Experience in administrative systems is also a plus.
