Camp Counselors Needed for Sibling Camp!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Camp One Step

Camp One Step

A cancer diagnosis impacts the entire family. Sibling Camp provides a great opportunity for siblings, ages 9-19 years old, to bond with peers who understand what it’s like to have a sibling with cancer. Campers can expect a mix of their favorite camp activities and new experiences to fill jam-packed days of fun with their camp family!

We are currently recruiting for counselors and medical staff for Sibling Camp. Non-medical volunteers will serve as counselors. Each counselor is typically assigned 3-4 children to care for during the program. We also need assistance with our auxiliary teams, the folks that help behind the scenes to make our camps happen - setting up supplies, moving firewood, filling water jugs, etc. Our non-medical volunteers come from all walks of life, and while experience with kids is a plus, it's not a requirement! More important are passion, patience, and participation!

We are also looking for Physicians, Nurses, and Advanced Practice Providers to volunteer for our medical staff.

Strong relationships are built and friendships are created! We are looking for volunteers (at least 21 years of age) to help support our Sibling Camp this Summer, in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. If you are interested, sign up today!

About Camp One Step

Location:

213 W Institute Place, Suite 410, Chicago, IL 60610, US

Mission Statement

Through the magic of camp, we help kids diagnosed with cancer reclaim their lives. Our programs offer participants a diversion from their illness, opportunities for the development of life skills, friendship, and unconditional acceptance from those who understand.

Description

Dr. Edward Baum, a pediatric oncologist at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, founded Children's Oncology Services, Inc., in 1978. Dr. Baum recognized that isolation from school, activities, and peers had negative social and developmental consequences for his patients. With the help of friends and colleagues, Dr. Baum created COSI. The first summer, he and 14 volunteers welcomed 40 children with cancer to a life-changing week of hope, strength and support.

Today, COSI continues to be volunteer-driven, relying on more than 400 volunteers (including many former campers), an active Board of Directors and a small professional staff to plan and operate a wide portfolio of camping, recreational, and educational programs for children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer. From the popular two-week Summer Camp, which now serves nearly 300 children, to skiing excursions and education programs, COSI is a leader in providing empowering and fun experiences to young people facing cancer.
