George N. Avery Pineland Restoration Day

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: The Institute for Regional Conservation

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Volunteers will help IRC remove invasive ferns and complete other restoration work at the George N. Avery Pineland owned by IRC. This is a great opportunity to come learn more about the imperiled pine rockland habitat including plant identification and what restoration efforts go into restoring this kind of site. With than 2% of this unique habitat left outside of Everglades National Park, restoration efforts at remaining pine rocklands are incredibly important for the plants and animals that call this habitat home.

We will provide tools, gloves and light refreshments. Volunteers are advised to wear long pants and closed toed shoes.

Questions can be sent to Alex Blochel at admin@regionalconservation.org or 305-504-1690.

Mission Statement

A private non-profit organization, The Institute for Regional Conservation (IRC) is dedicated to the protection, restoration, and long-term management of biodiversity on a regional basis, and to the prevention of regional extinctions of rare plants, animals and ecosystems.

Description

Based in Florida, USA, IRC works on conservation research and action throughout South Florida, the Caribbean and beyond. Our work is premised on an innovative idea of conservation that seeks to protect and restore viable populations of all plant and animal species within a region, rather than simply focusing on charismatic animals or plants with narrow global ranges.
