The Arc taking part in "Wings for Autism(r)/Wings for All(r)". This event is a "rehearsal" for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder along with individuals with intellectual developmental and physical disabilities to have a chance to go through the process of traveling in an airport. This program provides the families the opportunity to practice safe travels by going through the process of obtaining boarding passes, going through security and boarding a plane so that they can alleviate the stress in future travels. Wings for Autism(r)/Wings for All(r) also gives airports, airlines and Transportation Security Administration professionals and other personnel the opportunity to observe, interact and deliver their services in a structured, learning environment. This will be a fun and free event for families who would like to experience the process of traveling before making plans to do so.
There will be a MANDATORY volunteer orientation at 2:00pm on Tuesday, May 1st at the Eastern Iowa Airport. In this orientation, volunteers will get a better understanding of their role in this event. Volunteers will be a critical part of making sure this experience is as stress free for families as possible.
For any other questions on this event, please contact Mariah Simmons at The Arc of Southeast Iowa by calling 319-351-5017 or email her at mariahsimmons@arcsei.org.
