Would you like to teach elementary or middle school students from diverse backgrounds this summer? We are looking for summer school teachers to lead our summer program for refugee-born children. A team of 2-3 teachers leads each session. Together, they develop a curriculum, run the classroom, and work with students in small groups. They are assisted by numerous classroom helpers to keep everybody engaged and focused. This is a wonderful volunteer position if you’re trying to build your education resume. Elementary school and middle school meet from 9:00-12:30 in separate classrooms.
The program takes place at McCoy Village Apartments, a housing complex in NE Portland. McCoy Village is home to majority low-income families of color and immigrant families. To support our students and help them remember what they’ve learned during the school year, we offer summer school for elementary and middle school kids from June 25th-July 26th.
If this sounds like an exciting opportunity to you and you have availability in June and July, consider becoming a summer school teacher! We would love to have you on board, and we will gladly give you a letter of recommendation to include in your resume package.
