About Sertoma

SERTOMA, an international community-service organization, exists for the high and noble purpose of SERvice TO MAnkind by communication of thoughts, ideas, and concepts to accelerate human progress in health, education, freedom, and democracy. Sertomans worldwide rally around the common cause of helping speech- and hearing-impaired children. However, our service extends to many other worthy causes.

The Sertoma Club of Norfolk-

Over Fifty Years of Service

The Sertoma Club of Norfolk was established in 1949 as the Cosmopolitan Club. The year 2009 marks six decades of Norfolk Sertomans serving the Hampton Roads Community. Some of our founding members are still actively involved in club proceedings! The longevity and success of Norfolk Sertoma is attributable to the spirit of these great men and the enthusiasm of the newer members in carrying the torch for a very worthy cause.

What Do Sertomans Do?

Every year, Sertoma clubs raise more than $20 million for community needs. Through these projects, as well as grants and scholarships, Sertoma clubs return those funds to their respective communities.

Sertoma Projects

  • Sertoma’s primary service project is assisting the more than 50 million people with speech, hearing and language disorders.
  • Sertoma also sponsors community projects to promote freedom and democracy, to assist youth and to benefit a variety of other local community needs, as selected and funded by individual clubs.
