We are a non-profit reptile shelter located in North Scottsdale. We serve the community by providing a home for unwanted reptiles and by educating the public through tours, field trips, and school events. We currently house a collection of over 2000 reptiles and are looking for help providing care for these animals.

Volunteers typically provide care by feeding out pre-made diets, monitoring animal health, and by maintaining habitats. Volunteers are trained with each animal and are never expected to work with any animals that he or she does not feel comfortable with.

Volunteer schedules are tracked with a website called Volgistics that allows volunteers to chose their own volunteer hours and even enter a preference for what job they would like to do. This means our volunteers have very flexible schedules with some people volunteering with as little as three hours a month and more dedicated volunteers volunteering over fifty hours a month! With 2000 animals and only 5 full time staff we appreciate any and all help!

If you are interested in becoming part of the team Please email me at Joe@phoenixherp.com and I will get back to you with more details as soon as possible! Thank you.

Mission Statement

PHS Mission Statement: "Promote conservation and preservation of native and non-native reptiles through education, rehabilitation, rescue, and relocation" PHS Volunteer Mission Statement: "Support the PHS Mission Statement, provide assistance and care to PHS staff and animals by learning, serving, and contributing to PHS rescue and conservation in any way possible."

Description

The Phoenix Herpetological Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is a statewide facility that includes a surrender facility, education program, summer camps and rescue and rehabilitation.

PHS focuses on two specific goals:
Rescue and Rehabilitation
The need for a sanctuary was not only for non-native but native species as well. On average PHS takes in close to 500 animals annually from private pet owners. PHS approached Arizona Game and Fish with a proposal to build a facility for this purpose. Currently PHS is home to over 1,700 animals of which 90% are pet trade type animals. We assist the general public, humane societies, animal welfare leagues, animal control departments, law enforcement and other organizations across the United States.

Conservation Education
Conservation begins with education. Our desert (and our planet) is in serious jeopardy. It is imperative to teach our youth the importance each animal plays in our eco-system. Last year the PHS outreach program touched 250,000 people. These were primarily school-aged children and teenagers.

In the simplest of terms, we believe in conserving animal wildlife through education.
