The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back? Do you want to help others and at the same time, face new personal experiences or challenges? Do you desire to learn more about end-of-life issues? Our volunteers add to the quality of a patient's time at the end of life's journey with weekly visits. No special skills needed. Typical companionship activities include visiting, reading, and providing general support to the patient and his/her family. Training is provided on a Saturday in our Flower Mound office. The next training will take place in the Fall of 2018.
After training, volunteers are matched to patients located near them, all over the metroplex. We frequently have patients in Allen and McKinney, and not many volunteers from those areas, so the need there is great. No need to travel to Flower Mound except for the training date and one follow-up visit. (However, volunteers are always welcome to stop in and visit as often as they'd like!)
